ALLEPPEY – Venice of the East
Referred to as the “Venice of the East” by travellers across the world, Alleppey is a district of
immense natural beauty. By virtue of its proximity to the sea, the town has always enjoyed an
exclusive place in the maritime history of Kerala. Caressed by the Arabian Sea in the West and a vast
network of lakes, lagoons and freshwater rivers criss-crossing it, this backwater country shelters
some unique animal and bird life. Other special place at Alleppey is Kuttanad- land of lush green
paddy fields- referred as “Rice bowl of Kerala” and one of the few places in the world, where farming
is done below the sea level.
Climate: - Alleppey, being a coastal area, is humid all through the year. The best time to visit the
place is between September to March. Summer temperature is 24 Degree to 36 degree and Winter
temperature is 18- 32 degree.
To Do/ Visit:- Backwater rides, houseboat cruise and stay, beaches, boat races, Paddy fields and coir
factories.
